Let’s See What’s Going On!
This year’s Día de Muertos celebrations in San Miguel de Allende were a joyful explosion of color and culture from October 26 to November 2, 2025, turning our lovely colonial city into a beautiful tribute to tradition, art, and the memories we cherish.
Major Events and Highlights
We kicked off the 10th anniversary of the Festival de Vivos y Muertos on October 26 at Parque Benito Juárez, inviting families to join in a day packed with community art, altar-building workshops, and catrina decorating fun.
The main festivities on November 2 featured a heartwarming exhibition of ofrendas (altars) at the Explanada del Jardín Principal starting at noon, followed by the traditional Desfile de Muertos y Catrinas (parade of the dead and catrinas) at 6pm. Thousands of costumed Sanmiguelenses joyfully paraded their way from Del Cardo to the Jardín Principal.
Cultural Atmosphere
Throughout the celebration, our city was alive with the delightful scents of cempasúchil (marigolds), copal incense, and seasonal treats. Restaurants, hotels, and terraces adorned their spaces with beautiful traditional ofrendas, while the streets sparkled with marigolds and candlelight, creating an atmosphere that many described as a joyful blend of sacred rituals and festive celebrations.
Special Programming
The festivities offered a range of exciting experiences: a Ballet Folklórico performance celebrating 50 years of rich history on October 31, themed dinners like “La Última Cena de las Catrinas” that featured delicious ancestral menus paired with pulque and mezcal, and art installations at amazing spots like Fábrica La Aurora.
The celebrations honored our traditions, with candles lit progressively for beloved pets (October 27), those who passed away tragically (October 28), children (November 1), and adults (November 2), each marked with special offerings and rituals that made this year’s event heartfelt and welcoming for both visitors and locals alike.
